About Audrey

Conductor Audrey J. Edelstein brings sensitivity, power, and connection to the podium, championing a compassionate experience between herself, ensemble, and audience. Audrey currently serves as Assistant Music Director of The Broadway Bach Ensemble and conductor of the Palisades Sinfonietta. Incorporating a background in classical dance in her conducting, Audrey shapes orchestral, choral, and theatrical soundscapes with fluidity and grace.

Actively engaged in programming women and underrepresented voices, Audrey blends the richness of the classical tradition with perspectives of the next generation of creators. Highlights include conducting Jennifer Higdon’s Viola Concerto with William Frampton, Principal Viola of the American Symphony Orchestra, the upcoming New York City premiere of Ruth Gipps’ Oboe Concerto with Keve Wilson, and a fully staged production of Stravinsky’s L'Histoire du soldat.

Audrey has worked with numerous ensembles as a guest and cover conductor, including the New Conductors Orchestra, the Queens College Orchestra, the Queensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York, the Yonkers Philharmonic, the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, and the Arcadian Chorale.

Previous positions include Assistant Conductor of the Oratorio Society of Queens and Northwinds Symphonic Band, and chapter conductor of HaZamir and HaZaPrep Long Island, part of HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir. Audrey is a founding member of the New Conductors Orchestra, a NYC-based civic orchestra committed to showcasing emerging conductors. 

Audrey earned her Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting at the Aaron Copland School of Music. At ACSM, she music directed the Music and Theater Department performance of Damn Yankees. She earned her Bachelor of Arts at Swarthmore College, and conducted the world premiere of The Royal Singer, a children’s opera by Thomas Whitman. She also music directed concert productions of South Pacific and Guys and Dolls among other collaborative projects.

Audrey is an alumna of notable training programs, including the 6th Annual Cascade Conducting Masterclass with Sarah Ioannides, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra Summer Conducting Seminar, Pacific Rim International Music Festival Academy International Conducting Master Class in Moscow, and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music Opera Bootcamp. She studied with Tong Chen, Maurice Peress, Markand Thakar, Arthur Arnold, Tito Munoz, Andrew Hauze, and Mark Gibson. Previously, Audrey was a Fellow in BeSpoken, a mentorship program for women in classical, contemporary, and jazz music.

Audrey teaches Conducting at the H. L. Miller Cantorial School of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and maintains a private studio of conducting and musicianship students. She especially loves working with public school teachers looking to grow their skills.

Audrey lives in Aberdeen, NJ with her husband, Chaim, and her son, Roni.
